Crib Shoes

As you prepare for a new baby, your family and friends will offer all sorts of advice on what you need. Some of this advice will be filled with terms that as a new parent you might not be familiar with- such as "crib shoes."

If someone has told you to add crib shoes to the list of baby clothing you need, you might have smiled and nodded politely all the while wondering, what in the heck are crib shoes? Are they for the crib? Are they for the baby? If so, how many do I need? Where do I get crib shoes?

What Are Crib Shoes?
While you might not have heard them referred to as crib shoes, you certainly have seen a pair. Crib shoes are basically shoes designed especially for babies under one year of age.

Generally speaking, crib shoes are made of one material throughout. The sole of the shoe is soft, unlike toddler shoes. You will often see crib shoes made with leather or some other pliable and durable material.

Most crib shoes have a soft, non-slip sole that allows a growing baby to crawl, explore and stand without falling or slipping. Crib shoes are typically used until the baby starts walking (usually by about their first birthday). Once your baby is walking, you will want shoes that have a harder sole and provide them with more support.

Crib shoes come in a variety of styles that are perfect for any occasion. There are sandals, tennis shoes, boots and even crib shoes for dressy occasions.

Don't worry about them falling off. Most crib shoes have an elastic ankle that allow you to easily slip them on your baby, but makes them hard for the baby to kick off.
