The armrests are flat, and the back has a slatted section in the center with open sections on the sides. As with other reviewers, I had the same problem locating pre-drilled holes for the seat fastening-there were none-easy enough however, I merely set the bracket in place and used an ice-pick to score a pilot hole-the rest was easy.
Also, tightening one of the bolts with the allen wrench supplied-it seems the bolt kept turning and the receptacle anchor started to extrude-I had to take it apart and screw the anchor in by itself till it was flush against the wood-as a final precaution I added a shot of Gorilla Glue to the dowel area for further strength. All else is good and the wood is of a superior quality for the price paid.

What a lovely rocker! Just what I wanted for reading quietly in the bedroom. Very easy assembly. The only problem was the parts for the seat cushion...I couldn't figure out how to attach. There were only 2 pre-drilled holes in the rear but none in the front. I merely just sat the cushion in the space. Seems fine. Not enough to deter from taking a star away. Very comfortable...thanks Hayneedle!
