The Beauty and Benefits of Rubberwood
Prized as an "environmentally friendly" wood, rubberwood makes use of trees that have been cut down at the end of their latex-producing life cycle. The trees are removed by hand and replaced with new seedlings. In the past, felled rubber trees were either burned on the spot or used as fuel for locomotive engines, brick firing, or latex curing. Now the wood is used in the manufacture of high-end furniture. It is valued for its dense grain, stability, attractive color, and acceptance of different finishes.

We have been shopping around for awhile for rocking chairs to use for our upcoming baby. I wanted to buy a high quality chair that I hoped I could move into the living room down the road and keep forever, perhaps passing down as an heirloom. After looking everywhere in stores, we realized that rocking chairs were much more expensive than we had anticipated for the style/comfort that we wanted. Our favorite chair was actually almost a duplicate of this chair, made by a high quality company (Stickley and Co.) but it was priced at [$] I was very hesitant about buying online because you can't see the quality of the wood or feel the comfort, but the dimensions were very similar and the price was MUCH MUCH cheaper, so i decided to purchase. I have to say that you get what you pay for, but I don't mean that this is not a great chair. The chair is extremely comfortable, and right now looks fantastic (although I agree with another reviewer that the wood/cushion look a little darker than the picture). Its a very heavy/sturdy chair and I don't think there will be any issues with the pieces creaking or coming apart, despite the fact that it was extremely quick and easy to assemble. The only problem I ran into is out of the box, there were small dings and irregular varnish spots on the wood. Not anything major, and most people who look at it probably wont notice it, but you can see multiple spots that just look like machine scratches from the assembly line and quick sprayed on varnish. I called the company and they were very polite and helpful and gave three options: 1. return for money back (postage included) 2. they would send a new one and I could exchange out the pieces that were scratched and send them back (postage included) 3. give a 10% discount. I ended up going with the 10% discount because after looking at all the pieces, there were small areas of irregularities on all of them and I didn't think exchanging would get any better quality. Bottom line, I think this is a GREAT chair for the PRICE, but its not a high quality chair that will last forever without looking worn. And by worn, I don't mean "antiqued".

I bought this rocker for our living room, both to match our other furniture and to rock our soon-to-come baby. I checked some of the measurements and thought that the chair would work well and that I, a petite person, might be able to touch the floor. Unfortunately, I neglected to account for the extra length of this chair -- if I sit all the way back in it, my feet don't touch. We plan to remedy this with an extra pillow/cushion in back. The chair still seems a little big compared to our other furniture, but it is good quality and very comfortable, so we think we will keep it.

I love the chair. Its design and appearance. A couple of problems:
- It came with a big dent on one of the sides I saw just taking it out of the packing. Packing showed some damage.
- One of the two rockers didn't fit. Perforations were off by approx. 1 mm (1/32") I had to widen the two perforations to have the bolts fall into position in the two legs.
I preferred to solve instead of returning, because disassembling, repacking and shipping would have been a lot more work. This would have been unsolvable for many people.

As others have mentioned, this rocker is big. Not quite like Edith Ann's rocker. I am a 6' tall dude and fit well on it. Rocks very smoothly on my hardwood floors. Very easy to assemble, individual, numbered hardware packs make it a cinch. Could use a little more padding in the back cushion. I plan to add a square piece of 1" foam inside the back of the cushion. Easy to do as the cushion has a zipper enclosure. Very sturdy and comfy rocker. I am pleased. I plan to buy a second rocker to balance out my room and for guests to enjoy with me.

Comfortable, sturdy, stylish. But beware if you're under 6 feet tall - the seat is so deep that your feet might not touch the floor. This is perfect for me because I'm 6'4".

Mine looks better than the photo. The wood color is a bit red, which is perfect with what I have. If you are looking for walnut color wood it may be a problem. However, it is a very sturdy piece! Also easy to assemble by one person.
